The other side

Most people’s vision of Amsterdam are the canals and the pretty old building surrounding them. The part of the old town is lovely and most tourists never venture out any further than that.

The contrast to the inner district of Amsterdam are parts of the city such as Bijlmer where the famous Johan Cruijff ArenA is based.

Architecture in this part of the city is rough and practical missing the charm of the canal district. But it does reflect the Netherlands very well as you will find similar contrasts across the country.
